Ernest Race Woodpecker armchair

£0.00
sold out

A Woodpecker armchair designed by Ernest Race in 1952. According to Alexander Gardner-Medwin (Director of Race Furniture) this armchair version is "extremely rare and was not put into full production". Ref: p18 of ‘Austerity to Affluence’ by Rayner and Chamberlain, where the chair is referred to as a prototype.

A fascinating piece, the metal rod frame clearly referencing the earlier Antelope and steel-rod rocking chair.

Painted steel-rod frame, wooden armrests, sprung upholstered seat. There is some wear to the paint on the legs and finish on the armrests. One leg is slightly bent. The upholstery is in good condition with some wear to front edges, it is old but may not be original.

Part of new stock drop just added to the website - pair of Robyn Denny prints from the Generations series, 1978. Beautiful, pared down abstraction.
