Alvar Aalto 1930s model 611 vintage chairs
Set of four vintage model 611 chairs designed in 1929 by Alvar Aalto, manufactured by Oy Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas Ab, Turku, Finland. They are 1930s/40s production, retailed through Bowman Brothers and most probably Finmar models.
Birch plywood seat & backrest with birch frame, in the original black painted finish. The finish is beautifully worn revealing the birch wood in places underneath. Lots of ageing and character but importantly they are all sturdy and strong. One backrest has some graffiti etched into the front (see photos).
One chair has the Bowman Brothers stamp to the underside.
